Welcome to the 19th Annual Session of The American International School Model United Nations (AISMUN) Conference held at AISE. This year’s conference will take place from April 2nd to 6th, 2009, and we are pleased to invite you to take part in such a prominent and motivating MUN session.

As the AISMUN 2009 Secretariat, my Deputy Secretary General Nada Nasser and I would like to welcome you to what promises once again to be a memorable and enriching experience. We believe that the most important aspect of our conference is teamwork. And by having such an empowered and dedicated administrative group, I assure you that the AISMUN 2009 conference will be a remarkable and unforgettable global exchange. AISMUN attracts over five hundred and fifty students yearly from schools in North and South America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe. Conference activities include lobbying and merging, days of debate over resolutions, cultural fieldtrips and visits to United Nations and Egyptian Foreign Ministry offices. Past conference guest speakers have included the United States Ambassador to Egypt, UN diplomats, negotiators of the Camp David Accords, university presidents, government ministers, and decision-makers directly involved with diplomacy and issues of global concern covered by the AISMUN delegates. AISMUN also provides our visiting delegates and directors with a truly cultural experience, offering field trips to various historical sites, including the Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum, culture tours around Cairo, and a four-day Study Tour to Luxor for those schools that wish to explore more of Egypt.

Each year, AISMUN's standard committees, including the two General Assemblies,

ECOSOC, the International Court of Justice, the Disarmament Commission and the Security Council, are accompanied by two additional forums for experienced delegates: the Advisory Panel, and the Youth Assembly. The Advisory Panel, a forum created by AISMUN, was recently adopted by THIMUN. Last year, an additional commission was adopted for the first time: The Human Rights Commission, which is now one of the biggest forums in AISMUN.

This year’s conference theme is Justice. Racism, individualism and extreme realism are factors and policies that are affecting our world today and resulting in discrimination and injustice. In order to promote equality, enable acceptance, and encourage empathy, justice must be actively facilitated in the world between countries and between individuals. This is the message that we aim to deliver and take action upon in our upcoming AISMUN conference, and we hope that delegates will respond with a courageous spirit, showing leadership in promoting justice.

With each year, AISMUN continues to grow and succeed – providing scores of students and directors with memorable moments debating critical world issues, exploring solutions and creating lasting friendships. In addition to a challenging United Nations simulation, AISMUN conferences are true cultural exchanges.

I look forward to meeting you and I welcome you to the 19th Annual AISMUN Conference!

Sincerely,

Heba Hosny

Secretary-General of
the 19th Annual AISMUN Conference
