Miral AbdelRazek - Secretary General

Welcome to the 20th annual American International School Model United Nations Conference! This year, AISMUN will take place starting the 26th of March until the 30th of March 2010, and it is our honor to invite you to partake in our enriching MUN experience.

On behalf of the AISMUN 2010 Secretariats and my Deputy Secretary General, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to what promises to be another memorable and enlightening experience to all. Each year, AISMUN welcomes hundreds of high school delegates from around the globe, where they are immersed in the world of international diplomacy acting as delegates, diplomats, advocates, and leaders. Combining students from North and South America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe, AISMUN provides all participants with a remarkable global exchange – a truly unforgettable experience.

The days at the AISMUN conference include myriads of educational and recreational endeavors. Starting off, participants will visit several key Egyptian cultural and historic sites, such the Pyramids, or Egyptian political sites, such as the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They will then immerse themselves in days of lobbying and merging and zealous debate over resolutions and verdicts, in parallel to truly enriching lectures by guest speakers, many of whom have included the United States Ambassador to Egypt, UN diplomats, negotiators of the Camp David Accords, government ministers, university presidents, and prominent decision-makers. The last layer of the conference is an optional four-day study tour to Luxor for schools eager to explore more of Egypt’s historical value.

Similarly to past AISMUN conferences, AISMUN 2010 will consist of nine forums. The standard committees, including the two General Assemblies, ECOSOC, the International Court of Justice, the Disarmament Commission, and the Security Council, are accompanied by three additional forums: the Human Rights Commission, the Advisory Panel, and the Youth Assembly. Recently, the Advisory Panel and the Human Rights Commission, both being forums created by AISMUN, were adopted by THIMUN. By providing a wide range of diverse forums, AISMUN allows all participants the opportunity of actively engaging in their areas of interest.

As a challenging UN simulation, AISMUN has developed an extraordinary reputation for success, and it is by welcoming you all to this year’s conference that we hope to surpass such reputation and reach new pars of excellence. With that, we hope AISMUN provides all participants with new perspectives on global issues, enhanced debating and critical thinking skills, and, most importantly, an experience worth cherishing.

I look forward to meeting you all and, once again, heartily welcome you to the 20th annual AISMUN conference!

Secretary-General,
Hana El Fekky
